In yet another shocker, the J&K government on Tuesday revealed that it has booked an expenditure of Rs 234.51 crore to protect 1917 persons. This expenditure was for the fiscal 2015-16 only.
In response to Rajiv Jasrotia’s question in the assembly, state home ministry said it is protecting 1633 persons in addition to 284 un-categorized political activists. They have been provided secured hotel accommodation as well. This number of protected persons is in addition the serving people in the government who are also being protected.
“The salary of police personnel (other than SPOs) deployed as PSOs or on guard duties with protected persons is being borne by the state government,” the home ministry said in its response. “The claims under transportation and accommodation are being reimbursed by the MHA under Security Related Expenditure. MHA releases 60% of the funds at the time of the receipt of claims and 40% are being reimbursed after MHA conducts audit of the accounts.”
In another revelation, the government said they have given out of turn promotion to 268 personnel in last two years for their excellent performance on operational front. It also said that police is considering out of turn promotion to inspector Shaki Devi to Dy SP. Devi is currently deputed to UN. Under the policy guiding the adjustment of SPOs in police, the government said 3331 SPOs were adjusted as constables and followers since 2009.
