SRINAGAR: Police in Shopian have dismantled a sheep theft gang, recovering stolen livestock and bringing relief to affected families.
“Residents of Heegund Batpora, Ayend Rawalpora, and Ramnagri had reported multiple theft incidents, prompting police to register FIR No. 03/2025 at PS Heerpora and FIR Nos. 21/2025, 23/2025, and 31/2025 at PS Shopian. A Special Investigation Team (SIT) was formed under the supervision of DySP Headquarters Shopian to expedite the probe,” a police spokesperson in a statement said.
“The team analysed CCTV footage and questioned suspects, leading to the arrest of three individuals: Tariq Ahmad Dar of Raiwatan Aasnoor, Kulgam; Nissar Ahmad Malla of Wazir Check, Imam Sahib, Shopian; and Abdul Rehman Mir of Sarmarg Kandimarg, Kulgam. During questioning, the accused confessed to multiple thefts in Shopian, Bijbehara (Anantnag), and Kakapora (Pulwama),” it reads.
Efforts are ongoing to apprehend other gang members who remain at large, with further confessions expected as the investigation continues.
