The “Run for Peace” marathon organized by J&K Police evoked good response from the people of all walks particularly the students, said spokesman.

According to spokesman, “early in the morning when DGP Dr. S.P. Vaid flagged off the run for various categories hundreds of students, youth and people from all walks of the life had lined up on the Boleuward road at Police Golf Course which runs alongside the world famous Dal Lake.”

During the flag off the DGP said to the participants that the “Run for Peace” was organized to provide an opportunity to the people particularly students and the youth to show their urge for peace in the state particularly in the valley.

DGP flagged off the marathon which was divided into seven different categories.

After the completion of the event a prize distribution function was held in the lawns of the Police Golf Course where Sajad Gani Lone Minister for Social Welfare, ARI & Trainings and Science & Technology was the Chief Guest and B.B. Vyas Chief Secretary was Guest of Honour.

In his address, Lone complemented J&K Police for organising the event and providing him an opportunity to be part of the marathon.

He said that he was delighted to see such a huge response from participants of all walks of the life. He also hailed the parents for encouraging their wards to participate in such constructive programmes. He said that more such events/ marathons need to be organized in the State and those who excel and achieve good positions need to be given employment opportunities.

In his address Chief Secretary B.B. Vyas congratulated the J&K Police for organizing the event.

The Chief Secretary said that such events spread a positive message in the whole of J&K State and the trust shown by the parents in the J&K Police is a big example.

Dr. Vaid in his address thanked all participants particularly the youth for making the marathon a huge success. He said that the kind of energy which he saw in the children and other youth who participated in the run was unparalleled. He said that a kid of 3 to 4 year old joining us for “Run for Peace” fulfilled our mission. “I recall last year and same time we had such a difficult time in the Valley. The idea of organizing the sports events in J&K is to take the youth away from menace of drugs and channelizing them in a positive direction. J&K Police and youth are partners in peace.”

Winners of different events:

Sakeena Rashid got first position in 6 km girls under 14 years, Rubab Ali second, Sara Naqash third, Farhat Saneen fourth, Tanzeela Manzoor fifth, Uzma Zehra sixth, Fajar Nazir Reshi seventh, Misbah Showkat eighth, Tabasum Khan ninth and Haya Mir tenth.

Ifshan Ahmed got first position in 6 kms boys under 14 years, Sheikh Saqib second, Momin Ismail third, Aqib Ahmad fourth, Rashid Shakeel fifth, Basharat Ahad sixth, Mohd. Yaqoob Ganaie seventh, Abrar Ahmad Wani eighth, Arif Bin Mushtaq ninth and Shakeel Ahmad Dar tenth.

In Half Marathon for Women Asifa Shafi got first position, Mandeep Kour second, Jameela Akhter third, Yaqooma fourth and Tabasum fifth. Majid Ashraf got first position in Half Marathon for Men, Munir Ahmad Dar second, Dalvir Singh third, Nissar Ahmad Dar fourth and Balvinder Singh as fifth.

In Half Marathon for Men Para Military / Police Personnel in which Imtiyaz Ahmad Dar got first position, Zaffar Ali second, Parshotam Kumar third all from J&K Police, Laljit Lakra of CRPF got fourth position and Lal Singh of J&K Police as fifth.
In full Marathon for Men Tahir Aziz got first position, Umar Hamid as second, Hamid Aziz Kaloo third, Umar Farooq as fourth and Makhan Lal as fifth.

In full Marathon for Men Para Military / Police Personnel S.G.Ct. Reyaz Ahmad of J&K Police got first position, Jugal Singh second, Pawaninder Kumar of third, E. Ganesh fourth all from CRPF and Lovejeet Singh of J&K Police got fifth position.
