The Government has put the draft Jammu and Kashmir Rights of Persons with Disabilities draft Bill 2018 in public domain to solicit views and suggestions of the stakeholders.
According to Secretary Social Welfare, Dr Farooq Ahmad Lone, the draft bill is available on the official website of Social Welfare Department (SWD) at www.jksocialwelfare.nic.in.
He said the views and suggestions can be sent to the office of the Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, J&K.
The suggestions, he said, can also be mailed at [email protected].
He said the Commissioner for Persons with Disabilities, shall be also organizing interaction with the stakeholders for thorough discussions on the proposed bill by the stakeholders.
The Bill is aimed at ensuring that the PsWD enjoy legal capacity on an equal basis with others in all aspects of life and has the right to equal recognition everywhere as any other person before the law and have the rights, equally with others.
The Bill will bring J&K’s law in line with the United National Convention on the Rights of Persons with Disabilities (UNCRPD), to which India is a signatory.
It will not only enhance the Rights and Entitlements of Persons with Disabilities but also provide an effective mechanism for ensuring their empowerment and true inclusion into the society in a satisfactory manner.
