Government of Jammu& Kashmir and Union Government have signed memorandum of understanding (MoU), for setting up of two Mega Solar Size Parks In Leh and Kargil district of Ladakh region.

These details were revealed in the Legislative Assembly on Saturday in a written reply by the government.

“MoU has been signed between Government of India and the Government of Jammu and Kashmir for development of two Solar Size Parks,” reads the document.

The capacity of these Solar plants will be 7500 MW. However, on ground the government has failed to initiate the process on these projects.

Giving reason for delay of starting the work, government has stated that due to, “non- availability of adequate land in both Leh & Kargil districts” the ground work could not be started .

It has also been stated that there is “lack of  power evacuation infrastructure in Ladakh for transmission of the power” that would be generated from the proposed solar parks.
