Given the specialty they require in delivering as per the mandate, the J&K government is planning converting Information Department into a special service. This is expected to be delinked from the rest of the government so that it is manned and managed by the professionals, informed sources said.

Even on Sunday, Chief Minister Mufti Sayeed said he brought a professional Munir-Ul-Islam from the KAS cadre to head the department simply to get it back to the rails and to be managed professionally. He also directed that the Information department to revive its cultural activities and the press complaints section to improve accountability of the government.

The government may also re-classify the publications from J&K and make the systems more professional.

Almost on the same analogy, the government is planning delinking tourism, hospitality and protocol departments to be managed by specialists from hospitality and hotel management. The moves are still at an ideation stage and may take some more time, insiders said.
