J&K Yateem Foundation on Monday organized an Orientation Cum Sensitization Workshop On “Volunteerism in Social Service—Understanding Issues & Challenges” at BAITUL HILAL, Jawahar Nagar, Srinagar, on Sunday.
Quoting Dr Khurshidul Islam, Associate Professor, J&K IMPA, Srinagar and Senior Journalist and former BBC North India Correspondent Altaf Hussain, the spokesman said that they both talked about various areas of concern and highlighted different facets of social issues confronting the state of Jammu and Kashmir.
Both the resource persons had informal interactive sessions with Srinagar volunteers of JKYF while highlighting great examples and role models like Mother Teresa, Edhi Foundation besides other examples from the Western world and the Indian subcontinent.
Dr Khurshidul Islam focussed on the need to cater to the core issues related to poverty, education and healthcare. He called upon volunteers to understand the issues and challenges while strengthening and envisioning through their Third Eye. Dr Islam said there is a need to remain more transparent, open and accountable while building trust, credibility and reliability vis a vis core issues in the social service sector.
Altaf Hussain said volunteerism originates from the spirit of sacrifice and selflessness. He emphasized the need to develop a sense of belonging towards weaker sections of society and focus on reaching out to the needy and destitute while upholding their dignity. Mr Hussain said sincerity is the key and pleasure of Almighty Allah must be the sole objective in contributing towards any social cause. He cautioned volunteers against doing anything that would demean self-respect of orphans, widows or any other category of downtrodden sections of people.
Both the resource persons complimented J&K Yateem Foundation management for its innovative initiatives and the welfare work being undertaken at the state level.
Earlier, two scholars Suhail Ahmad Khan, Class 10th and Waseem Ahmad Lone, Class 5th of BAITUL HILAL, Child Welfare Centre of J&K Yateem Foundation, presented Qur’an Recitation and Na’at at the beginning of the workshop.
Former Chairman JKYF & Senior Volunteer Mohammad Rafiq Lone presented vote of thanks while JKYF’s Srinagar district Secretary Mehmoodur Riyaz Falahi conducted proceedings of the two and half hour workshop. District Representative JKYF Mohammad Iqbal Beigh coordinated the workshop.
