Following this relaxation, 25 Executive Engineers have been promoted as Incharge Superintending Engineers. The decision also enables the appointment of Chief Engineers, posts that had remained vacant for several months due to a shortage of officers with the required qualifying service. JKCEGA said that the move will help ensure continuity in the planning, execution, and supervision of water supply and irrigation projects across Jammu and Kashmir. The association added that the promotions are likely to support timely service delivery and reduce delays in ongoing projects.

JKCEGA acknowledged the role of Omar Abdullah for addressing the issue, Javid Ahmad Rana for supporting the proposal at the cabinet level, and Shaleen Kabra for overseeing procedural clearances and ensuring issuance of the necessary orders. The association noted that this decision will help strengthen the engineering cadre and expressed its continued support for the government’s development agenda. JKCEGA reaffirmed its commitment to assist in the implementation of infrastructure projects across the Union Territory.
