SRINAGAR: A militant associate belonging to the Jammu and Kashmir Ghaznavi Force (JKGF) was arrested by security forces in the Potha bypass area of Poonch district, along with explosives.
A police spokesperson in a statement said, “A joint checkpoint (naka) was set up yesterday evening by the police, Army, and CRPF at the Potha bypass. During the search, security personnel observed a person approaching from Surankot towards Potha in a suspicious manner. Upon noticing the security forces, the individual attempted to flee, but alert personnel apprehended him.”
A search of the suspect’s blue bag revealed three hand grenades, explosive materials, and other incriminating items, police said.
“Preliminary investigations identified the suspect as Mohd Shabir, son of Mohd Farooq, a resident of Daryala Nowshera. He is reportedly in contact with a handler from Pakistan-occupied Kashmir (POK) named Azim Khan, also known as Mudeer, who instructed him to collect the consignment from Surankot town,” it reads.
The police have taken cognisance of the incident, and further arrests are expected, the statement said. (GNS)
