The Jammu and Kashmir Industries Limited today conducted a sale mela of its products in the lawns of Civil Secretariat for the government employees.
The employees thronged the stall and a good response was received for its woollen product range.
Chief Secretary B V R Subramanyam visited the stall and while appreciating the design, quality and rates of the products directed the management to involve reputed designers so that the products manufactured are as per latest trends and fashions. The Chief Secretary also directed the JKI to explore the possibility of establishing a new showroom at Katra and other potential places which provides for good marketing opportunities.
Commissioner/ Secretary Industries and Commerce Manoj K Dwivedi informed the Chief Secretary that substantial modernisation/up-gradation process of all the JKI units with the approximate investment of Rs 100 crore has been almost completed. He said that all these big industrial establishments are now poised to work at the optimum levels bringing about viable economic cycle benefiting the local farmers engaged in cocoon farming and sheep rearing besides creating adequate employment opportunities for the local youths.
In view of the acceptability of local silk globally and availability of raw wool, the JKI management was asked to upgrade its product range to the higher standards for export of silken and woollen products.
