JKLF Rally

Despite curfew-like restrictions in and around Lal Chowk, JKLF as per its announced program organized a rally from Saraibala Srinagar on Wednesday.

According to a statement, the rally demanding the mortal remains of late Muhammad Maqbool Butt and Muhammad Afzal Guru tried to march towards Lal Chowk when a large contingent of police and forces cordoned it near Amira Kadal Bridge.

“Police arrested JKLF members including Noor Mohammad Kalwal, Bashir Kashmiri, Bashir Ahmad Rather (Boya), Mohammad Zargar, Fayaz Ahmad Lone, Basharat Ahmad Bhat, Shakir Ahmed Ahangar, Imtiaz Ahmed Ganai, Mushtaq Ahmed Koreg, Nazir Ahmad Rather, Abdul Ganai, Gulzar Ahmed and Shahid Hussain. The arrested were first shifted to police station Shaheed Gunj but soon were shifted to Batamaloo police station,” the JKLF statement said.

Police had cordoned all the roads leading to Lal chowk since early Wednesday.

Maisuma and adjacent areas have been put under strict restrictions and police have put barricades and razor wire on roads. JKLF chief Muhammad Yasin Malik along with leaders Mushtaq Ajmal, Ashraf Bin Salam and Ghulam Muhammad Dar are lodged at central jail Srinagar while as Showkat Ahmad Bakshi is under house arrest from last three days.
