SRINAGAR: A dispute is arising over Maharashtra’s acquisition of land in Budgam for Maharashtra Bhawan, with former CM Omar Abdullah stating that the National Conference (NC) government, once in power after winning the Assembly polls, will review the deal.

Addressing a rally in South Kashmir’s Kulgam district, Omar expressed concerns about the government’s construction of large buildings in Kashmir, including rooms specifically for accommodating tourists. He alleged that this move would deprive local hoteliers in Kashmir of their livelihood.

The Bhawan will come up on a plot of land measuring 2.5 acres at Ichgam, close to Srinagar airport. The JK government has approved the transfer of land to the state government, subject to a payment of Rs 8.16 crore. “Sanction is accorded to the transfer of Shamlat Deh land measuring 20 kanal situated at estate Ichgam Budgam in favour of Maharashtra state on payment of transfer value of Rs 8.16 crore, which is Rs 40.8 lakh per kanal, for construction of Maharashtra Bhawan,” a Revenue department note states.
