As per a statement issued, the chargesheet has been filed against the former Assistant Sub Inspector of J&K Police, the former Head Constable/Constable of CRPF, a former Sepoy of the Army, a teacher, and private individuals.

The CBI initiated the case on 09-01-2023, following a request from the Government of Jammu and Kashmir regarding irregularities in the written examination conducted by the J&K Services Selection Board (JKSSB) for the position of Junior Engineer (Civil) in the Jal Shakti Department.

The statement revealed, “During the investigation, it was discovered that a private individual conspired with other accused. In furtherance of the conspiracy, an employee of a printing press allegedly stole the question paper for the JE (Civil) examination and handed it over to the aforementioned private person. The private individual then contacted other accused to arrange and solicit candidates for the sale of the leaked question paper. It was further alleged that the candidates were transported to Panchkula in tempo travellers and taxis and provided leaked question papers in exchange for money.”

The investigation, spanning several states, involved the analysis of voluminous technical data, bank accounts, toll data, and the examination of over 100 witnesses. After completing the investigation, a chargesheet was filed against the accused.

The statement emphasised that the findings are based on the CBI’s investigation and the evidence it collected. According to Indian law, accused individuals are presumed innocent until their guilt is finally established after a fair trial, the statement added. (KNO)
