Mother of senior journalist, Riyaz Masroor, passed away on Tuesday after a brief illness.
According to family sources, Shameema was in her early seventies and was not keeping well for some time. She breathed her last today.
They said people from various places and organisations participated in the funeral prayers and prayed for peace to the departed soul.
Riyaz Masroor covers Kashmir for British Broadcasting Service (BBC) besides contributing columns for other news outlets.
Meanwhile, Peoples Democratic Party President Mehbooba Mufti expresses her heartfelt condolences to Riyaz Masroor on the tragic demise of his mother.
She also prayed from eternal peace to the departed soul and strength to the bereaved family, said PDP spokesman in a statement.
