Noted Journalist Dr Shujaat Bukhari has been elected as President of State’s largest literary organisation Adbi Markaz Kamraz (AMK) during a mid-term election held here on Sunday. Bukhari is Editor Rising Kashmir.

The mid-term elections which were due after former President Dr Aziz Hajini took over as Secretary J&K Cultural Academy were held on Sunday under the supervision of former bureaucrat Ghulam Muhammad Wani and Prof Farooq Fayaz who acted as Returning Officer and Observer, respectively.

Wani declared Bukhari winner as President securing 61 votes, against his rival Dr Rafi Masoodi who got 39 votes. Third down the line, was Abas Jawhar, who secured four votes.

115 out of total 125 AMK members cast their vote for the chair. Three votes were rejected while one was cast as NOTA. Among total 25 registered units of the organisation members, 23 units participated in elections.

Newly elected President Bukhari vowed to maintain the coherence and unity of organisation by reaching out every member of composites units.

He appealed members of the organisation to work in coherence and sought their cooperation for elevating the organisation where never need.

Bukhari said that he would take up the responsibility seriously and work for the welfare of all the units and members who are devoted to democratic set-up of the organisation.

“I will work for the betterment of the organisation besides its members,” Bukhari said adding, “AMK is now a linguistic Movement and we have to work effectively for this movement taking all the units and members along.” (KNS)
