Srinagar
Valley-based media fraternity on Tuesday took out a protest march from press enclave to clock tower Lal Chowk, Srinagar against the killing of senior journalist Shujaat Bukhari. Bukhari was killed on June 14, 2018, by unknown gunmen at Press colony in Srinagar.
The protestors while holding the placards read “ words will speak from the graves”, “journalism of courage has taken a severe beating”, “probe controversial remarks by BJP MLA Lal Sing”, “Media cannot be silenced”, and “stop killing journalists” demanding time bound-probe.
Editor Kashmir Times, Anuradha Basin asked for the time-bound probe and said that the culprits should be identified and brought to justice without any further delay.
Mohammad Rafi, a journalist participating in the protest said: “This was not an attack on an individual, but an attack on the whole media fraternity. It was carrying an implicit message that voices of dissent will not be tolerated if they trespass a given line.”
The protest rally was organized by the Kashmir Editors Guild (KEG).
