The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) led by Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Mohammad Yasin Malik on Thursday called for peaceful Kashmir-wide protests after Friday congregational prayers against killing of civilians, indiscriminate use of pellet and vandalising of properties and impressed all sections of society including Aemam Masajid, teachers, lawyers, intellectuals, civil societies, traders, students, state employees, the statement said.

The spokesman said JRL while appealing international community to take cognizance of Kashmir situation. JRL impressed upon global hearers “they need to raise their voices and come to the rescue of people in Kashmir,” JRL in a statement said.

Meanwhile Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umer Farooq continues to be under house arrest, while Mohd Yasin Malik was arrested and lodged in central jail. JRL said that Kashmir has been turned into a killing field where the lives of men, women and even children are not safe.

JRL said that killing, torture, detentions and arbitrary measures won’t deter them from pursuing their mission nor will break their resolve.

“Government authorities have declared war on civilians,” JRL said while strongly condemning the indiscriminate use of pellets against civilians said. “Hundreds of youth are victims of a deadly weapon used nowhere else in the world. The fact remains unchanged, Kashmir is the only place in the world where these weapons are used against human beings” they added.

The JRL expressed their deep anguish over the continued silence of the international community and said that though several resolutions had been accepted in the United Nations to resolve this long-pending issue, no steps had, however, been initiated.

“To make an end to hostilities in the subcontinent, the international community should take concrete political steps to resolve the longstanding Kashmir dispute,” the JRL urged.
