Mattu has joined Lone after quitting the NC. Now he will hold office as Peoples Conference (PC) leader. “Hopeful that change will dawn on the city tomorrow,” Sajad Lone tweeted last night. “Best of luck Junaid_Mattu in the mayoral elections. This will the first time that JKPC_ will be inshallah heralding change in the city of Srinagar. The city deserves a well-educated mayor.” After the results came out, he tweeted again, this time adding Ram Madhav and Imran Raza Ansari: “Congrats. PC mayoral candidate wins.” Lone is a BJP ally.

Imran Raza Ansari tweeted: “wish you all the best and may Srinagar shine under your Mayorship.”

Mattu has polled 40 votes and defeated the Congress rival who was supported by almost every other political force in the city. His rival that Congress had put up secured only 26 votes as four were declared invalid.
