Days after militants attacked police party in South Kashmir’s Kakapora area of Pulwama district, Special Operation Group and CRPF in a joint operation arrested five youth during nocturnal raids in Kakapora while police arrested three youth from other part of the Kakapora tehsil.

Eyewitnesses told a Srinagar based news agency, CNS that panic gripped in Kakapora when SOG and CRPF personnel cordoned off a particular area of Kakapora and raided the five houses at a time. Reports said that five persons including two students were dragged out from their houses, bundled into vehicles and taken to unknown destination.

The arrested youth have been identified as Shabir Ahmed Bhat son of Ghulam Muhammad, Showkat Ahmed Ahangar son of Ghulam Rasool, Nazir Ahmed Wagay son of Ghulam Muhammad, Muhammad Ashraf Lone son of Ghulam Nabi and Reyaz Ahmed Wagay son of Abdul Aziz all residents of Kakapora.

“We don’t know why they were arrested and we even don’t know which party arrested them and where they have been taken,” the father of one of the arrested youth said, adding that they are all innocent.

Sources said that all these youth were arrested in connection with the recent attack carried out by militants near Sumo Stand Kakapora in which one policeman suffered injury.

Police also arrested three youth from Naman Kakapora in connection with the explosion that rocked Kakapora during night a few days back. “We had called five youth for questioning in this regard amoung which two were released after questioning,” a police official said.

The three youth who are still in police custody have been identified as Nisar Ahmed Malik son of Ghulam Nabi, Muhammad Rasikh Dar son of Muhammad Yousuf and Rameez Bhat son of Ghulam Nabi all residents of Naman Kakapora.
