Thousands of mourners  on Friday participated in the funeral prayers of slain militant killed in a gunfight with government forces in Kalantara Kandi area of Baramulla in north Kashmir.

One among the two slain militants killed in Kalantara has been identified as Aai Rasool Kaboo of Arampora and another is believed to be a foreign militant. Both were killed in a brief gunfight with government forces.

Amid the pro-freedom slogans mourners marched with his body to the martyrs’ graveyard where he was laid to rest. Earlier, The Jammu and Kashmir police said that based on credible inputs about the presence of militants in Kalantara Payeen area of Kreeri in North Kashmir’s Baramulla district, a cordon and search operation was launched by Police and security forces in the area.

As the searches were going on, the search party was fired upon by the hiding militants. The fire was retaliated leading to an encounter. In the initial exchange of fire three security men sustained injuries. They have been evacuated to hospital and are undergoing treatment.

In the ensuing encounter, two militants were killed and the bodies were retrieved from the site of encounter. Their identities and affiliations are being ascertained.
