Reiterating his call for implementation of 18 United Nations Resolutions on Kashmir, All Parties Hurriyat Conference (g) chairperson, Syed Ali Geelani, Monday said that the recent statement of an UN official is against the aim and mission of United Nations itself.

Addressing a press conference here, Geelani said, “India has accepted and is party to 18 resolutions passed by United Nations on Kashmir.”

“The recent statement of UN Peace Building Commission Chairman (Macharia Kamau) defies the basic aim and mission of United Nations itself,” he said.

Notably, Kamau in a press conference at UN had responded to a question saying, “Kashmir issue will be resolved in the context of the local domestic political environment between Pakistan and India.”

“Kashmir is not a border issue,” Geelani said, “it is a human issue involving 1 Crore and 30 Lakh people.”

Responding to another question, Geelani said that Kashmir is an international dispute which has been accepted by India. “Our birth right has been promised to us at International level and UN resolutions from basis of our struggle,” he said responding to a statement of Indian deputy MEA, VK Singh, who had said that “Hurriyat leaders are citizens of India and can meet anyone”.
