SRINAGAR: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Friday paid heartfelt tributes to Imam Hussain (A.S.) and his revered companions on the occasion of Youm-e-Ashura, saying their supreme sacrifice at Karbala continues to inspire humanity with the timeless values of faith, justice and courage.
In a message posted on X, the Chief Minister said the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (A.S.) stands as an eternal symbol of courage, truth and an unwavering commitment to justice.
He said the sacrifice of Karbala reaffirmed the enduring ideals of faith, humanity and righteousness, and continues to guide people across generations.

Abdullah expressed hope that the sacred occasion would inspire people to uphold the principles of compassion, sacrifice, communal harmony and righteousness, while strengthening their resolve to stand for truth and justice in all circumstances.
Later in the day, the Chief Minister joined Youm-e-Ashura mourners in Srinagar’s Zadibal area, where he distributed water and milk at a refreshment stall set up by the National Conference.
He was accompanied by his Advisor Nasir Aslam Wani and MLA Zadibal Tanvir Sadiq. Omar interacted with mourners and volunteers and took part in the distribution of refreshments as part of the Ashura commemorations.
Thousands of mourners gathered across Jammu and Kashmir on Friday to observe Youm-e-Ashura, commemorating the martyrdom of Imam Hussain (A.S.) and his companions in the Battle of Karbala through mourning processions, religious gatherings and prayers.
