SRINAGAR

Senior PDP leader and Member Parliament, Tariq Hameed Karra Sunday asked people to be vigilant against the nefarious designs of National Conference (NC) leaders, who have entered into a secret pact with BJP and RSS for abrogation of Article 370 as a part of power-sharing arrangement in the State.

“There are reports that the power hungry NC leaders have not only offered support to BJP for government formation in the State, but have even expressed their willingness to help the Saffron party on abrogation of Article 370,” Karra said while addressing a series of public meetings in Beerwa assembly segment to enlist support for the PDP candidate, Dr Shafi, a party statement said.

Karra alleged as per the ‘clandestine agreement’ with BJP, NC is seeking rehabilitation of Omar Abdullah in the union government while BJP could form a government in the State with NC support.

He said NC has a history of treachery and the party has always bartered the State’s political and economic interests for power. “Unfortunately, the prized resources like water and power have already been exchanged by successive NC regimes and in a desperate bid for survival, the party is now trading JK’s special status with the RSS,” he said and added that the upcoming assembly elections could prove a watershed in the State’s history of systemic disempowerment if the people don’t use their vote alertly and decisively.

Karra said the State is today facing endemic power crisis because of the NC’s lust for luxuries and the ease with which it can sacrifice the state’s interests for political power. He recalled how NC had handed over precious state assets including power projects to the centre and agreed to a ban on recruitments in J&K when Omar Abdullah was a minister in the NDA regime headed by Atal Bihari Vajpayee, the statement added.

Karra said the NC is busy employing the same old tricks bringing permanent destruction of the system and frustration among the people, in order to gain some votes and end up in the lap of BJP.

“The party is again banking on boycott in the upcoming assembly polls and the irony is that the poll boycott seems to has now become a common agenda of not only NC, BJP and separatists but the security establishments as well,” he said and added that ahead of elections a situation is being created by fuelling violence to ensure minimum turnout of voters so that the BJP and NC can manage to sail through.

Karra said NC and BJP have become safe haven for Ikwanis and counter-insurgents whom they are now using to enforce poll boycott. “However, emancipated voters of the State can see through the designs of these parties and would respond appropriately during the upcoming polls,” he said.

Dubbing the government headed by Omar Abdullah as the most corrupt in scandalous regime in the State’s political history, Mr Karra said people have every right to ask how the first family of NC and most of the coalition ministers amassed assets beyond their known income.

“People have the right to know the truth behind Haji Yousuf’s death; the spurious drug scandal; PHE scam; forest land grab; kickbacks in various power projects; cricket scam; usurping of Toshkhana properties; construction of palatial residences and acquisition of vehicles of royal standards by Omar Abdullah and his colleagues,” he said.

Karra said with a decisive mandate, PDP would not only safeguard the interests of the State but would, under the leadership of Mufti Mohammad Sayeed, create a firm resource base for J&K to be able to fund its infrastructural development and generation of employment, the statement further said.
