SRINAGAR

Senior PDP leader and Member Parliament, Tariq Hameed Karra Wednesday said he will be initiating legal action against National Conference (NC) spokesman Junaid Azim Mattu for making false, defamatory and derogatory accusations against him.

“I have decided to file a case of defamation against Mattu and seek damages to the tune of Rs 50 crore for making fictive and unsubstantiated accusations against me,” Karra said in a statement.

Karra said he was never a minister in the cabinet headed by PDP Patron Mufti Muhammad Sayeed as stated by  Mattu in his statement, published in a section of the press today, while levelling wild allegations against him.

“I also challenge NC spokesman to come up with a single statement that I have made against the PDP leadership at any point of time, as stated by him,” he said and added that Mattu shall also have to prove in the court of law the other accusations made by him regarding any custodian land being in my possession illegally.

Regarding his role in flood-relief, Karra said while his own house was submerged in Shivpora area and he had to relocate his residence on the outskirts of Srinagar, he continued to visit the flood-affected areas and brought to light the pilferage of thousands of tonnes of rations by NC functionaries during his visit to FCI godowns at Lethpora and Budgam.

He said Mattu must tell people that while Srinagar was flooded, where was NC president Omar Abdullah partying with his friends? “If he doesn’t know let me inform him that his leader was partying in Sanavar (Himachal Pradesh) as the people in Srinagar were facing the devastation by the deluge,” he said.

Karra said NC spokesman shall have to prove his wild allegations in the court of law or pay Rs 50 crore damages for the damage caused to his reputation by the malicious and slanderous accusations.

Karra said it is a known fact that how thousands of kanals of kahcharai, nazool and evacuee property land were grabbed by NC legislators in and around Srinagar during the past six years and how they have stashed their wealth from Srinagar to Dubai, Dubai to London, London to Cyprus and beyond.

Karra said having been rejected by the people and sensing complete rout in the ongoing polls, NC has now stooped too low in frustration that its only agenda is character assassination of its political opponents.
