Kashmir: 14 Drug Peddlers Arrested, Narcotics Seized in Police Crackdown

   

SRINAGAR: In a major crackdown on drug trafficking, Jammu and Kashmir Police arrested 14 drug peddlers and recovered large quantities of narcotic substances in multiple coordinated operations across the Valley. Authorities also sealed a medical shop in Kulgam for violating mandatory norms related to the sale and record maintenance of Schedule H medicines.

In Anantnag district, police conducted a series of targeted operations based on specific intelligence inputs and court-approved search warrants, leading to multiple recoveries and arrests.

During a raid at Naina Gund Baba Khalil, Sangam, police recovered 3 kg and 99 grams of charas powder-like substance from the residential house of Fayaz Ahmad Dar of Sangam. His son, Arbaz Ahmad Dar, was also arrested in the operation.

In another naka checking operation at Naibasti Marhama, Sangam, police intercepted a Hyundai i20 vehicle and recovered 488 grams of charas-like substance from two occupants identified as Shahzada Suvaid and Waris-ul-Islam, both residents of Tral.

At Anantnag bypass near Danter bridge, police recovered 106 grams of charas sticks and 88 grams of charas-like powder from Sajad Ahmad Shah of Hakhoora Badazgam during routine checking.

In a separate operation in Qazigund, police arrested Abdul Qayoom Shah at Kurigam Railway Bridge and recovered 109 grams of charas concealed in corn husk. The arrest led to further investigation and identification of backward links, following which raids in Sirhama led to the recovery of 1.212 kg of charas and the involvement of two more individuals in the supply chain.

In Kulgam, multiple operations at Furrah New Bypass and Akhran resulted in the recovery of charas powder, heroin-like substances and cash, with two individuals arrested. In a separate case, a man from Delhi was also arrested with charas and heroin-like substances during naka checking.

Police Post Mir Bazar also arrested a suspect identified as Danish Khurshid in possession of charas powder, heroin-like substance and ₹22,000 in cash, indicating suspected drug trade activity.

In Pulwama’s Rahmoo area, police recovered 6 kg of semi-crushed cannabis powder from a suspect carrying a nylon bag. In Awantipora, two drug peddlers were arrested near Padgampora Railway Station with heroin-like substance recovered from their possession.

In Sopore, police arrested an individual at Brath Crossing and recovered Codeine Phosphate bottles along with heroin-like substance during routine patrolling.

Meanwhile, in Kulgam, a joint inspection by police and Drug Department teams led to strict action against multiple medical establishments. RH Medical Store was sealed for violating Schedule H drug regulations, while several others were recommended for suspension over non-compliance with mandatory record-keeping norms.

Police said that all cases have been registered under relevant sections of law and investigations are underway to trace the wider network and supply chain.

Reiterating its zero-tolerance policy, Jammu and Kashmir Police said sustained operations against drug trafficking will continue to protect youth and dismantle narcotics networks across the Union Territory.
