According to the Divisional Commissioner Kashmir, the National Food Security Act (NFSA) is in full swing in the entire valley.

“Against an allocation of 370473 quintals, 254667 quintals stand distributed among various categories,” an official spokesperson said Thursday evening.

A population of 4206558 souls are covered in priority category receiving food grains at Rs 3 per kg against the earlier rate of Rs 10 and 6.50 per kg. “This apart, 2603558 souls covered under non-priority category shall receive food grains at Rs 10 per kg. In all a total no of 6810115 souls against the population of 72 are covered under NFSA in Kashmir province there by giving a big relief to the poorest of the poor, the basic purpose for which NFSA has been implemented,” the spokesperson added.
