Aima worked for Citi Bank before moving to HDFC Bank where he headed the Securities division for a long time. Post-retirement, he was on the board of various companies.

The banker was the son of Omkar Nath Aima Aima, the lead character of Kashmir’s first film, Menzrath. He was the nephew of Kashmir’s noted Chakri artist, Mohan Lal Aima. Abhay’s marriage had failed and he had no children. He is survived by his brother Aloke Aima.

“He had spent more than two decades in core banking in various roles at HDFC Bank & Citibank Aima Saeba, not done! Childhood friend and chief protagonist in bedtime stories narrated to my son leaves me shattered. And alone,” Kashmir economist, Haseeb Drabu tweeted. “Five decades of association in Srinagar & Mumbai ends in a minute. Not fair. Abhay Aima, April 17th, 1961- April 27th, 2024. RIP.”

His last rites are taking place at Santacruz crematorium on Sunday.
