In the cross border firing in Jammu region, death toll reached six Sunday morning.

A woman succumbed to her injures. She has been identified as Masarat Kousar, wife of Hallem Kha of Behrote in Balakote.

Reports said that Kousar was present jnside her house when a mortar shell landed on it, leading to her on the spot death.

On Saturday, five people were killed and more than a dozen others were injured in the shelling between Insian and Pakistani armies in Poonch sector.

Pakistani media has also confirmed the death of two civilians in the shelling on their side of border.

“The Indian troops used small and heavy arms, including artillery, targeting mainly the civilian population,” assistant commissioner Malik Ayub Awan told the Dawn from Hajira, in Poonch district.

“A shell landed on a hamlet in Battal sector after midnight, killing 65-year-old Sakhi Mohammad and injuring his 26-year-old daughter, Aarzoo. At least eight more houses and one shop were damaged in the area,” he added.
