SRINAGAR: Amidst existing ‘unscheduled power cuts and outages’, the Kashmir Power Distribution Corporation Limited (KPDCL) announced on Monday that there will be further increase in power curtailments.

Taking to the microblogging site X, KPDCL said, “Due to limited power availability, there has been an unavoidable increase in power curtailment. These restrictions will be eased once power availability improves. Please bear with us & ensure judicious use of power, especially during peak hours. Avoid exceeding sanctioned load/hooking.”

KPDCL Chief Engineer (Distribution) Sandeep Seth mentioned that the company was yet to finalise the schedule. “We are finalising the power curtailment schedule and will make a decision accordingly,” Seth said.

When asked about the reason for the extra curtailments, Seth stated that the distribution company was obligated to distribute the only power received from the government.

“I’m unaware of the reason for the extra curtailment. However, we will continue to distribute the available power,” he said.

A senior official from the Power Development Department (PDD) mentioned that power generation remains unchanged.

“As of now, power generation from local resources remains the same,” the official said. (KNO)
