Kashmir Braces for Western Disturbance, Light Snow Likely

   

SRINAGAR: Night temperatures in the Kashmir Valley have slightly improved but remain below freezing. A weak Western Disturbance (WD) is expected to bring light rain and snow to higher areas and scattered places between Monday evening and Tuesday morning, according to the Meteorological Department (MeT).

Dry weather is likely to follow until December 7. Another wet spell with light rain and snow is expected on December 8, after which dry conditions will prevail until December 12, media reports said.

Despite a slight improvement, temperatures remained below normal across the region. On Monday, Gulmarg recorded the coldest temperature at -2.9°C, while Pahalgam was at -2.3°C. Srinagar recorded a minimum of -0.8°C, an improvement from the previous night’s -1.3°C, and 0.4°C above the seasonal average. However, fog in Srinagar, including over Dal Lake, disrupted normal activities.

Other locations also experienced cold nights: Qazigund recorded -1.4°C, Pahalgam -2.3°C, and Kokernag 0.2°C, all near or slightly above normal. Kupwara recorded -0.6°C, 1.1°C above average for the season.
