SRINAGAR: Abrar Khawaja, brother-in-law of acclaimed Kashmir novelist Mirza Waheed passed away in Srinagar Thursday afternoon. He was in his early fifties.

A resident of Kamangar Pora Rajouri Kadal in Srinagar, Abrar was a well-known businessman. According to family sources, Abrar couple of weeks ago had complained about a cough and later possibly developed a certain chest-related infection. As his condition deteriorated, all of a sudden, he was shifted to Paras Hospital in Srinagar where he was put on life support immediately.

Terming his condition critical from day one, he spent almost 12 days on life support. He passed away at 5:30 pm today.

Not able to recuperate as his vital parameters were not showing any improvement, finally, doctors declared him dead today. He is survived by his wife and two children.

Abrar led a truly full life and was known for his compassion and helpfulness. The outpouring of grief among the people of Srinagar and beyond is a testament to Abrar’s love and kindness for all those who crossed paths with him. Srinagar has lost an affectionate friend and a quiet philanthropist. Abrar will be remembered for his limitless generosity.

Family sources said Abrar’s fourth day, Chahrum will be observed on Sunday.
