Kashmir Chamber of Commerce & Industry (Inc) has noted with concern the state cabinet decision regarding allotment of 80 kanals of land at Industrial Growth Centre, Samba, to the central Ministry of Micro, Small & Medium Enterprise, GOI for setting up of Technology Centre / Tool room, with committed investment of Rs 100 crores.

Chamber president Mushtaq Ahmad said while the trade body is not in principle opposed to the government initiative to create facilities for growth of industry in any part of the state, but the feeling of deprivation can not be prevented as the state government appears more focused on Jammu. Earlier, Jammu got IIT and IIM.

“Pertinent to mention is the fact that Kashmir region keeping in view its geographical situation with restrictive connectivity with other parts of the country deserve more attention in the case of creating state-of-the-art facilities for growth of industry,” the Chamber said in its statement. “The KCC&I, therefore, would urge the state government that apart from the IIM and IIT, a Technology Centre/ Tool room be set-up in Srinagar also as industrial units in Srinagar are otherwise craving for availability of a similar facility to help upgrade and maintain their product quality.”
