Dar entered the auction with a modest base price of Rs 30 lakh but rocketed to Rs 8.40 crore amid competition, primarily from Delhi Capitals who saw him as a death-over specialist and lower-order hitter, as per Times of India previews. ABP Live noted his registration as Auqib Dar, with eight Jammu and Kashmir players shortlisted but Dar emerged as the standout, buoyed by recent domestic form.

Born in North Kashmir’s Baramulla, Auqib Nabi Dar has impressed in 36 first-class matches with 870 runs and 125 wickets, alongside 351 runs and 42 scalps in 29 List A games, as detailed by ABP Live ahead of the auction. The Times of India profiled him as a fast bowler honing death-over skills, drawing comparisons to Jammu and Kashmir predecessors like Rasikh Dar, who fetched Rs 6 crore for RCB in IPL 2025. His Ranji exploits, including key hauls for Jammu and Kashmir, positioned him as a hot prospect, per IPLT20 auction lists.

Fans erupted on social media, with Instagram reels from IndianCricket hailing Dar’s journey from Kashmir to IPL stardom.
