Srinagar: Terming Kashmir dispute a living reality, Kashmir’s head priest and Hurriyat Conference (m) chairperson, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq on Friday said Government of India’s attempt to define the Kashmir movement for Self-determination under the rubric of terrorism is neither going to stop the people of Kashmir from pursuing their just demand nor help in dealing with the issue at hand. “All it does give GOI the justification to use excessive force to repress the people of Kashmir and mislead the people of India into believing this propaganda and hence prolonging the crisis,” Mirwaiz said while addressing a Friday congregation in Srinagar’s historic Jamia Masjid.

Addressing people before the Friday congregation Mirwaiz said that neither stock piling more pallet, shot guns and other lethal weapons nor packages and development nor enrolling Masjids imams and Khateebs or creating sectarian divide nor resurrecting the infamous SOG can make the people give up their basic political demand and bring peace and normalcy in the disputed territory. Mirwaiz said instead of looking at ways and means to maintain the status quo and subvert the peoples struggle by the GOI, it would be in the best interest of all parties involved in the Kashmir dispute that all energies and efforts are expended at the resolution of the dispute in accordance with the peoples wishes and bring stability and prosperity to the region.

Mirwaiz reiterated that “oppressive” policy and tactics cannot suppress the people’s “right to self-determination” and Kashmir’s leadership is committed to represent and support their just struggle for fulfillment of political aspirations.
