Authorities have finally geared themselves to manage the devastation that floods will result into. Due to incessant rains, water discharge has touched dangerous levels in all the streams in south Kashmir. Right now, Shopian and Kulgam are reported worst hit because massive rain fall in upper Pir panchal.

Both the south Kashmir districts have set up emergency control rooms to manage the crisis.

In Shopian, Irrigation and Flood Control department has established a 24×7 Control Room at District Headquarter to address the problems. The control room can be contacted on telephone Nos: 01933-261312 and cell phone 9419031117.

Officials in Shopian said five families consisting of 23 souls who had got stranded in the Rambi Ara, where they were temporarily staying were rescued by the District Administration with the support of locals of Kapran. The Deputy Commissioner appreciated the support of the locals of the Kapran area in helping the rescue operation.

 In Kulgam, people living in low lying areas were advised to move to safer places in view of apprehension of inundation due flood waters.
