KL Report

SRINAGAR

Huriyat (M) Chairman Mirwaiz Umar Farooq Friday stressed upon people to exhibit the same courage and determination to deal with the present catastrophe as they have been doing in past 25 years of oppression.

Stressing that Kashmiris were going through the hardest of times due to the Nature’s fury during his Friday address at historic Jamia Masjid, Mirwaiz stated that floods have wrecked unimaginable losses to economy, agriculture, standing crops, horticulture, business, industries and residential houses. He stated that preliminary reports suggest floods have inflicted 80, 000 crore damages and it would take Kashmir years to recuperate from such heavy losses.

According to the statement issued to KNS, asking people to have firm faith in Allah, and to ask for his help and guidance in rebuilding  Kashmir, Huriyat (M) Chairman stated that great nations, instead of waiting for help from others, become self reliant and believe in self help.

Deflating the claims of government that it was present on ground to deal with the situation, Mirwaiz stated that state machinery had completely collapsed in fact it was dead. “The tall claims made by the state government are just propoganda and hype.” He stated that drinking water was absent, there was extreme shortage of food grains and medicines, and  high risks of epidemic in flood hit areas. He stated that many areas are still inundated, and dead carcasses scattered all over. Mirwaiz said that most relief work was still carried out by local Individuals and voluntary organisations.

Mirwaiz stated that Hurriyat has appealed to OIC and the international community to provide a help and assistance to the flood  victims. He added that it is the duty of   Kashmiri expatriates to  come forward and formulate a comprehensive mechanism so that their help reaches their brethren in Kashmir in this hour of crisis.

Appealing media to show the true picture of the situation arisen after the flood, Mirwaiz  expressed concern over the stock piling and black marketing of essentials by some unscrupulous elements.

In continuation of his visit and providing relief to flood hit areas, Mirwaiz visited NIT Hazratbal, and appreciated the efforts of DAK,who have set up a medical camp in the campus. He also distributed relief in  Nund reshi colony and Gousia colony of Bemina. He  flayed government for not de-watering these areas so that people could return to their homes.
