The International Film Festival of Kashmir 2014 organized by Experimental Moving Images and Theatre Association (XMITA) will start from Monday (August 18) at SKICC here, a statement said on Sunday afternoon.

The film festival, which is forth edition of International Film Festival of Kashmir (IFFK) is marking XMITA’s 10th anniversary with longest-ever line up of movies across the globe, the statement informed.

“Over four days starting Monday, 44 movies in 10 international languages will be screened at a festival expected to attract some 2000 viewers, the statement said adding, “The selected films belong to seventeen countries including Syria, Russia, Armenia, Netherlands, Iran, Portugal, Germany, France, Kazakhstan, Korea, Canada, Serbia, Italy, Poland, Turkey, Jordan and India.”

IFFK 2014 began in 2007 which has since grown from a relatively small gathering in a basement to the largest festival in Srinagar, it claimed.

Prof Fida Muhammad Hasnain, Kashmir’s, historian and columnist, will chair the jury of eminent experts that will choose the winner of the top awards, from among competing movies. Besides, Bashir Budgami, a known Filmmaker; Bashir Bhawani, a known theatre personality of Kashmir; Zarief Ahmad Zarief, poet and writer; Prof Rehman Rahi, veteran writer; Ghulam Nabi Khayal, writer and Journalist; Muhammad Shafi Pandit, literati and former bureaucrat; Shabir Mujahid, filmmaker and Director General Doordarshan; Dr Shujaat Bukhari, a known writer and journalist; Farooq Nazki, film critic and writer; Aziz Hajini, writer and Shamshad Kralwari, Broadcaster shall be the jury members, the statement further said.

The films include seven (7) World Premieres, fifteen (15) South Asian Premieres, two (2) International Premieres, One Asian Premier and One Indian Premier, it concluded.
