This year, the theme of the 15th edition of the PII-ICRC awards is Superheroes: Battling at the frontlines in times of crisis.

Farzana’s story, which won her the award in the category ‘Best Article on a Humanitarian Subject’ brought out emotional stories of the frontline health care professionals, who contracted the virus, fought it, recovered while few lost their lives to it.

Farzana Nissar said that this wouldn’t have been possible without the doctors and their families talking to me and pouring their hearts out. “I specifically thank each one of them,” said Farzana.

Farzana Nisar also expressed her appreciation to all the journalists in Kashmir who despite all odds continue to tell the stories to the world.

“Presently I am attending this online ceremony 30 km away from my home because the internet services were yesterday suspended in my hometown, Kulgam. This is one of the many barriers we face on daily basis,” she said in her acceptance speech.
