SRINAGAR: A delegation of journalists from Jammu and Kashmir on Thursday interacted with Tamil Nadu Information Minister Dr L Murugan at the Doordarshan Chennai premises during a study tour organised under the aegis of the Press Information Bureau (PIB), Srinagar.
The interaction was held alongside a programme organised by the Tamil Nadu Information Department at Doordarshan Chennai to mark Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s birthday.
Murugan received the visiting journalists and discussed issues related to the media environment, government information systems and Tamil Nadu’s development with the delegation.
The journalists sought information about the functioning of Tamil Nadu’s information machinery, the state’s media landscape and the mechanisms through which government departments coordinate with media organisations.
The delegation also shared perspectives on journalism in Jammu and Kashmir, including recent developments and challenges facing the media sector. The journalists said inter-state exposure programmes provide opportunities to gain first-hand understanding of developments in infrastructure, industry, culture and other sectors in different parts of the country.
The minister briefed the delegation about initiatives undertaken by Tamil Nadu in the information and broadcasting sectors and highlighted the role of the media in communicating government schemes, welfare programmes and other public initiatives.
Senior officials and representatives of the Tamil Nadu Information Department, Doordarshan and other departments attended the interaction.
The ongoing study tour has been organised by PIB Srinagar to provide journalists from Jammu and Kashmir exposure to institutions, developmental projects and strategically significant sectors in different parts of the country.
During the Tamil Nadu leg of the tour, the delegation is scheduled to visit various institutions and establishments in Chennai and other parts of the state, covering areas including infrastructure, industry, transport, culture, information dissemination and broadcasting.
The participating journalists said the programme was providing them an opportunity to gain first-hand exposure to institutional practices and developmental initiatives outside their immediate geographical region.
