SRINAGAR: The Jammu and Kashmir administration has launched an investigation into Hilal Akbar Lone, a National Conference (NC) MLA from Sonawari, after he was allegedly seen not standing during the National Anthem at an official event. The incident occurred on Wednesday during the oath-taking ceremony of Omar Abdullah as Chief Minister at the Sher-e-Kashmir International Convention Centre (SKICC) in Srinagar, according to sources quoted by News18.

Top intelligence officials have confirmed to the media outlet that CCTV footage from the ceremony is being reviewed to determine whether Lone and others remained seated during the playing of the National Anthem. The footage will be carefully scrutinised to identify any attendees who failed to show respect during the anthem, as the controversy has stirred significant debate across the region.
Lone, when questioned about his actions, cited a medical condition as the reason for not standing. However, the sources revealed to the News18 that just hours before the incident, Lone was seen standing and giving interviews to the media, casting doubt on his explanation.
