Rich tributes were paid to Mirwaiz Moulana Muhammad Farooq, Khwaja Abdul Gani Lone and “martyrs” of Hawal massacre of May 21, 1990.
The spokesman said speakers who addressed the gathering include Hurriyat leaders Prof Abdul Gani Bhat, Bilal Gani Lone, JKLF chairman Muhammad Yasin Malik, heads of trade organisations that include Kashmir Economic Alliance head Muhammad Yasin Khan, Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industries Javaid Ahmed Tanga, senior trade union leader Sampat Prakash and Hakeem Abdur Rashid, who was representing the Hurriyat Conference led by Syed Ali Geelani. The seminar was moderated by Moulana M S Rehman Shams.
In his presidential address, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq said that Kashmir is not an issue of economic doles or privileges but a political and humanitarian issue and it is our consistent stand that this issue can be resolved either by implementation of UN Resolutions on Kashmir or through a sustained result oriented meaningful dialogue among India, Pakistan and the people of Kashmir and that “military might” can’t muzzle the genuine aspirations of people of Kashmir.
Without directly referring to Ramadan Ceasefire Mirwaiz said that no temporary initiative can prove fruitful unless steps are taken to address the basic dispute of Kashmir. He asked what next after this month, will Government start killings in Kashmir again.
Mirwaiz said that the people of Kashmir are engaged in a struggle based on the internationally accepted principle of Right to Self Determination and in order to crush this genuine struggle of the people the repressive measures used by the government are faced and fought with complete determination and unity by the people of Kashmir which he said, will bear fruit.
Paying glowing tributes to the “Shaheed-e-Milat and Shaheed-e-Hurriyat and the “martyrs” of Hawal massacre besides all the martyrs of Kashmir”, Mirwaiz said that they have put the duty on us which demands that we show our complete commitment towards the movement with the unison of thought and action. Mirwaiz said it is a fact people of Kashmir have Rejected FEAR and have become resilient and government’s tactics of bullet and pellet, arresting people and leadership confining them in jails or houses, torture, use of NIA, repeated restrictions and curfews and harassment and intimidation and other measures of pushing the youth to the wall have proved a complete failure.
