SRINAGAR: Divisional Commissioner Kashmir Anshul Garg on Tuesday reviewed flood preparedness in Kulgam and directed all departments to maintain a high level of readiness in view of the prevailing inclement weather, stressing swift response mechanisms and uninterrupted delivery of essential services.
Chairing a meeting to assess the district’s preparedness for potential weather-related emergencies, Garg reviewed the operational readiness of the District Disaster Management Authority (DDMA), including rescue, relief and rehabilitation measures.
Deputy Commissioner Kulgam Shahzad Alam briefed the meeting on the district’s preparedness, outlining department-wise mitigation plans and the status of emergency response systems.
The Divisional Commissioner reviewed flood protection measures undertaken by various departments and instructed officials to ensure immediate deployment of field teams whenever required. He emphasised continuous monitoring of water levels, vulnerability mapping of flood-prone villages and the strategic positioning of manpower and machinery to deal with any emergency.
Garg also directed authorities to keep the district control room and disaster response mechanism fully operational to ensure a prompt response to any weather-related incident.
Reviewing the availability of essential public services, including telecommunications, healthcare, drinking water supply, electricity and essential commodities, he instructed the concerned departments to ensure that these services remain uninterrupted during adverse weather conditions.
He further stressed the importance of issuing timely public advisories and enhancing awareness among vulnerable communities to minimise the impact of any flood situation.
The meeting was attended by the Additional Deputy Commissioner, Additional Commissioner Revenue, Additional Superintendent of Police, Assistant Commissioner Development and other district and sectoral officers.
Earlier in the day, Garg visited the Mata Kulwagishori Temple at Bungam and Mata Katyani Temple at Kakran to review arrangements for the upcoming Annual Maha Yagya, directing officials to ensure smooth conduct of the religious event.
