Srinagar

A complete shutdown is being observed across the valley following Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) call against the ban on Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front (JKLF) organisation by the central government of India under “unlawful activities”.

All the shops and other business establishments are closed across Kashmir and traffic is off the roads.

The police and paramilitary forces have set up checkpoints at several places. In Downtown parts, police and paramilitary forces were deployed to foil possible protests.

The JKLF has been banned under various provisions of the Unlawful Activities (Prevention) Act. Its chief Mohammad Yasin Malik was earlier arrested by the government forces under Public Safety Act (PSA) and shifted to Jammu jail. Malik is also part of the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL).

Earlier the centre banned Jama’at-e-Islami outfit of Jammu and Kashmir under various acts.
