A complete shutdown is being observed on Sunday across Kashmir over the killing of three militants and a civilian in Chattabal Srinagar.

The Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Geelani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Yasin Malik had called for a valley-wide shutdown over the killing of three militants and a civilian in Chattabal area of Srinagar on Saturday.

All the business establishments, government and private offices are closed, while public transport remained off the roads.

Reports said that contingents of paramilitary forces were deployed in region’s capital particularly old city areas, where the situation remains tense following the killing of three militants, including a Fateh Kadal resident in yesterday’s nine-hour-long gunbattle in Chattabal.

Earlier on Saturday three militants identified as Fayaz Ahmad Hamal from Srinagar’s Fateh Kadal locality, Showkat Ahmad Tak from Awantipora and other believed to be foreigner was killed in the gunfight at Chattabal Srinagar.

Meanwhile, an encounter between the militants and government forces started in Badigam village of Shopian district.

Massive clashes have also been reported from near the gunfight site in Badigam Shopian.
