SRINAGAR: Javed Yousuf Dar, the Chief Engineer of Kashmir Power Development Corporation Ltd (KPDCL), announced that the 55,000 smart meters installed in Kashmir in the past year will be switched to a prepaid system starting from June 2023.
Dar highlighted that this transition to pre-paid smart meters is a significant step towards improving the electricity distribution process in Kashmir.
He explained that these smart meters, installed over the past year, were designed to provide real-time information on energy consumption, remote monitoring capabilities, and automated billing systems.
“Now, with the shift to a pre-paid system, consumers will have more control over their electricity usage and budgeting,” he added.
Under the new pre-paid system, consumers will need to recharge their smart meters with credit before using electricity. This allows them to monitor their energy usage in real-time and make informed decisions to reduce consumption during peak hours or adjust their usage patterns to optimize costs. (KNS)
