SRINAGAR: Police have arrested three individuals involved in drug trafficking in Awantipora and Baramulla, areas of Kashmir valley and recovered substantial quantities of narcotics from their possession in multiple operations.
In Baramulla, a police team from Tangmarg Police Station intercepted Mukhtar Ahmad Rather, son of Mohd Ayoub Rather of Nambalnar Babareshi, at a checkpoint at Y Point Babareshi crossing. Officers recovered 21 grams of a heroin-like substance and a digital weighing machine from him. Rather was arrested, and a case under FIR No. 85/2025 has been registered at Police Station Tangmarg under relevant provisions of the NDPS Act.
In Awantipora, a police party led by the SHO of Awantipora Police Station, along with the in-charge of Police Post Toll Plaza, intercepted two individuals at a checkpoint in Kachkoot. The accused, Farooq Ahmad Zaroo, son of Gh. Mohd Zaroo of Sether, and Ifahaz Ul Mushtaq, son of Mushtaq Ahmad Bhat of Pujteng, were found in possession of 5.42 grams of heroin-like substance, 553 grams of Charas powder, and 26.43 grams of Charas sticks. Both were arrested, and FIR No. 242/2025 has been registered at Police Station Awantipora.
JK Police reiterated its zero-tolerance policy against drug abuse and trafficking, urging the public to provide information on drug-related or other anti-social activities to help build a drug-free society.
