SRINAGAR: Several parts of Jammu and Kashmir received fresh snowfall on Monday, while rains lashed the plains, further bringing down the mercury.
Independent weather forecaster Aadil Maqbool reported that Sadhna Top and Razdan Top received one foot of snowfall, while Zojila Pass and Sonamarg recorded 10 inches of snow.
As per available data, Gulmarg recorded eight inches of snowfall, Doodhpathri seven inches, Peer Ki Gali eight inches, and Sinthan Top 10 inches. Light snowfall was also reported in some plains of Shopian, Baramulla, Kupwara, and Bandipora.
Director of the Meteorological Department (MeT), Dr Mukhtar Ahmad, said that generally dry weather is expected from Tuesday until March 9. However, a fresh spell of rain and snow is predicted between March 10 and 12.
Additionally, the MeT has issued an advisory warning of potential landslides, rockfalls, shooting stones, and mudslides in vulnerable areas.
Tourists, travellers, and transporters have been advised to follow the administration and traffic advisories, while farmers have been urged to suspend irrigation and other farming operations until March 4.
“Avoid slopes and avalanche-prone areas,” the advisory reads. (KNO)
