Two militants were killed in a gunfight as Army claimed to have foiled an infiltration bid in Baramulla district on Monday.

The infiltration bid was foiled in Rampur Uri sector, 110 km from Srinagar, when army personnel noticed the movement of armed militants. The militants were challenged and they opened fire triggering a gunfight.

“Two militants were killed in the gunfight and two weapons were recovered. The search operation is still on,” Srinagar-based defence spokesman Col Rajesh Kalia said.

Meanwhile, another infiltration bid was foiled in Tangdhar sector of frontier Kupwara district, 150 km from here, when soldiers along the Line of Control noticed suspected movement in the wee hours of Monday.

“When they were challenged, they opened fire triggering a gunfight. The exchange of fire has stopped and a search operation is in progress,” defence sources said.
