The practice of Unani doctors to prescribe English medicine is taking toll in valley hospitals with people turning aghast over the issue.unani

In blatant violation of Supreme Court guidelines and Medical Council of India (MCI) norms the doctors possessing degrees in Unani, Ayurvedic or Homeopathic system of medicines are practicing the Allopathic system in the hospitals of Kashmir Valley at the cost of the heath of gullible patients.

Sources said that the doctors holding degrees in alternative medicine continue to prescribe allopathic drugs in the Valley hospitals, putting lives of patients at risk and at some places BUMS and ISM doctors are running the entire hospital including the emergency services.

According to the sources, hundreds of doctors holding degrees in Unani, system of medicines continue to prescribe allopathic medicines in Valley hospitals. The practice is more rampant in the rural areas where most of these doctors have been posted.

The condition is pathetic in district, sub-district hospitals and primary health centers in the rural areas.

Sources told CNS that the doctors prescribe allopathic medicines to the patients, which are easily available in the markets in comparison to medicines of other systems.

“This illegal practice by the doctors will have serious consequences. They hardly know the formulae of the drugs, mode of action, dosage and its results,” a medical student of Ganderbal said.

When contacted Director ISM (Indian System of Medicine), Dr. Kabir Ahmad Dar, acknowledged that some non-allopathic doctors prescribe allopathic medicines to the patients in Valley hospitals. He said his department has already issued a circular in this regard.

“Yes, there are some non-allopathic doctors who prescribe allopathic drugs. We are aware of it. We have told our CMOs and other officials that the non-allopathic doctors should not be allowed to do it,” Dr Kabir told CNS

“Our effort is that they should not do it. We’re working on it. We have shown door to some doctors. We don’t renew their contract,” he added.

  1. want to understand why is there difference between allopathic and homeopathic dr. homeopathic or unani dr studies same and extra then allopathic dr. why in our society or system this feeling has been created that homeopathic or unani dr is value less and should be the last option. if our law too failed mention that why difference is there then time would come when homeopathic or unani drs will be forced to think of other jobs. the need of hour is to have bifercation basis studies not generally.
