SRINAGAR: Police have arrested a Kashmir University student and booked him under UAPA. The case against him was registered in 2018.

Identified as Aaqib Ahmed Malik son of Mushtaq Ahmed Malik, a resident of Aglar Pinjora area of South Kashmir’s Shopian district, reports appearing in the media said he was summoned by police for questioning and arrested.

“A case vide number 68/2018 under section 13 of Unlawful Activities Act stands registered at Police Station Nigeen. The role of the student has been established and subsequently, he has been detained,” a local news gatherer KNT quoted police sources as saying.

Aaqib, reports said was a student activist. Another report quoting another police official saying: “He was booked for his alleged active participation in anti-national activities in the university campus and dent image of law enforcing agencies besides causing disaffection against the country.”

Interestingly, Aaqib was earlier arrested in February 2020 under preventive detention act 107/151 and was detained in Central Jail Srinagar for around eight days. He was released and later asked to avoid attending classes for almost a month. Aaqib is pursuing masters in biochemistry since 2017.
